Trump's Packing His Bags, But Partisan Media Is Here to Stay

As leaders of the & # 39; resistance & # 39; against Trump, America's major newspapers, magazines, networks and liberal cable news have abandoned journalistic principles to become propaganda weapons of the Democratic party and activists on the left. They have pushed aside their historic commitment to open investigations and fairness to protect Democrats, portraying Donald Trump as a traitor and his supporters as white supremacists.

A free press is essential for the functioning of a democratic republic. It is an important channel for the free exchange and testing of ideas. Given that the mainstream media has abandoned this role while pushing some stories forward regardless of their mistakes, and delegitimizing others, regardless of their merits, it's not surprising that culture cancellation and anti-conservative censorship are flourishing on social media. Harassment, coercion, and punishment have always been the tools of choice to silence dissent and destroy freedom.

The bias of the media is also a major contributor to the anger that shapes the national mood. For progressives, increasingly losing their ability to separate the world from political results, this report defines Republicans as an immoral enemy that must be destroyed.

To conservatives, this torrent of deception about themselves and those they support is nothing less than an attack on their sanity, as they are incessantly told that what they see, hear, and understand is false, ugly and dangerous. It is literally maddening.

It's not a two-way street. Conservative news outlets also spread falsehoods and demonize progressives, but they have no control over national discourse.

The latest example of crime in the media is coverage of the criminal gang that stormed the Capitol last week because they believe the 2020 election was fraudulent. This isolated incident of violence by a small group of Trump supporters has been widely condemned by Democrats and Republicans who have rightly demanded that the perpetrators be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Nonetheless, the media, who finally have an example to support their favorite story that conservatives are a clear and present danger to the Republic, have inflated the threat while suggesting that the vandals represent all Trump voters. Hence the claim that was the crowd orchestrating a coup d'état. Whatever the intention, that ragtag crew would never overthrow our constitutional government. But such basic common sense is irrelevant to media outlets simply wanting to score points for their part.

However, that violence did not come out of the blue. It follows at least a decade of sustained effort by progressives challenge election results through direct action – starting with the acquisition of the Wisconsin state house in 2011 and the Moral Monday protests launched in North Carolina in 2013. Those angry but peaceful protests evolved into the Black Lives Matter and antifa-led uprisings that started last spring and resulted in multiple deaths and billions of dollars in property damage.

The mainstream media and the top Democrats downplayed and celebrated that violence lawbreakers. Vice President-elect Kamala Harris encouraged her supporters to contribute to the bailout funds for people arrested in connection with the arson and looting that devastated Minneapolis.

Echoing false reporting in the mainstream media, President-elect Joe Biden kindled the flames of the division last week when he accused the US Capitol Police of being racist by claiming, with no evidence, that they were soft on the crowd for being white. & # 39; No one can tell me, & # 39; Biden said on Jan. 7, "if that had been a group of Black Lives Matter protesting yesterday, they would have been treated very, very differently from the mob of thugs that stormed the Capitol."

Doesn't matter the police uses tear gas to disperse the crowd, or that they kill one unarmed woman. And let alone that the police response to the summer protests was largely characterized by reticence. BLM protesters were allowed to march through the streets and intimidate their fellow citizens with impunity in D.C. and elsewhere and to illegally occupy entire neighborhoods. The facts don't matter if they don't serve the story.

Democrats argue that it is worse to attack the US Capitol than to loot businesses and burn police stations in US cities. Maybe so, but both are over it turned out. With many Republicans still disputing the results of the 2020 election, the media and Democrats argue that such questions threaten our democracy. Behind the memory hole is the fact that the same people have claimed for four years that President Trump was working with the Russians to steal the 2016 race. Biden said, "I absolutely agree" after a woman last year called Trump an "illegitimate president."

Biden has also joined Harris and other top Democrats to make the claim Stacey Abrams has been robbed of victory in the 2018 governor of Georgia race through Republican loopholes. Rather than berating Abrams for fueling conspiracy theories, the media portrays her as a champion of justice.

Failure to address these issues and contextualize last week's gruesome violence is journalistic malpractice. Rather than examining the idea that Trump supporters pulled a page from the progressive playbook, our major news outlets portray the violence as evidence of the GOP's extraordinarily dark soul.

Such duplicity has become business as usual at these outlets. While Trump explicitly condemned neo-Nazis and white supremacists in its post-Charlottesville press conference (and on countless other occasions), the mainstream press – and Joe Biden – insisted he didn't.

During the 2020 campaign, the press helped Biden with the false claim that there was information on his son Hunter's laptop "Russian disinformation" even though the candidate himself offered no evidence of this strange claim or was even denied the accuracy of the information found on it.

The same press force that is uncritical reported as baseless and often wild assault allegations Brett Kavanaugh worked against the Supreme Court undermine Tara Reade & # 39; s more recent allegations against Biden.

Many people hope that after defeating Trump, the mainstream media will straighten their ship and once again commit to the best values of journalism. This is wishful thinking. The evidence shows it has embraced a partisan role. The editors and reporters of our country's major news organizations believe there is one truth – and that's theirs.

Our democracy is dying in this darkness.
